The Committees of the Session

 

Buildings and Grounds

            The Buildings and Grounds Committee is responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, and disposition of all church facilities, property, grounds, and equipment.  There are two Subcommittees.  The Cemetery Subcommittee manages all activity regarding the Church Cemetery.  The Chairperson of the Cemetery Subcommittee is Edwina Latson.  The Property Subcommittee manages the use of the Church Buildings by outside groups and individuals.  The Buildings and Grounds Committee also relates to the Personnel Committee for the purpose of overseeing and supporting the work of the Church Sexton, Mr. Brian Campbell.  Elder Herb Adler (765-3365) is the Chairperson of the Buildings and Grounds Committee;  Elders Deanna Flythe  (765-8369) and Dick Romeo (765-2675) are also members of this Committee. 

Christian Education

            The Christian Education Committee is responsible for the whole program of Christian Education.  This includes, but is not limited to, church school classes, Adult Education Subcommittee, Vacation Bible School, Confirmation Mentoring, Youth Arts Encounter, and the Youth Group.  This Committee is responsible for leaders, resources, teachers, and facilities for the educational work of the church.  The Christian Education Committee also relates to the Personnel Committee for the purpose of overseeing and supporting the work of the Director of Christian Education, Mrs. Kathy Tylee.  Elder Janet Dickerson  (734-7167) is the Chairperson of the Christian Education Committee. 

Mission

            The Mission Committee is responsible for interpreting the church’s mission, local, regional, national and global, to the congregation.  This Committee is responsible for the annual Mission Budget.  All ongoing congregational mission initiatives are advised by and accountable to this committee, including but not limited to the CROP Walk, Maureen’s Haven, The Giving Tree, Medical Missionary in Malawi, One Great Hour of Sharing Offering, Peacemaking Offering, Christmas Joy Offering, and Thanksgiving Turkeys for the annual Migrant Dinner sponsored by the Long Island Council of Churches.  The Mission Committee collaborates with Christian Education and Presbyterian Women on various mission efforts.  Elder Valerie Reeve (477-0722) is the Chairperson of the Mission Committee; Elder Fred Lee (765-6080) is also a member of this Committee. 

Congregational Life

            The Congregational Life Committee is responsible for all such events seeking to cultivate fellowship within the congregation, including but not limited to Pot Luck Suppers, Church School Picnics, the annual Church Picnic, and coordination of Fellowship Hour on Sundays.  This Committee supports other groups in the church as they seek to implement events by volunteering, buying supplies, and helping with planning and implementation.  Elder Linda Fasbach (477-1362) is Chairperson of this Committee. Elder Joan Ahlsen (765-6216) is also a member of this Committee. 

Church Growth

            The Church Growth Committee is responsible for seeking out prospective new members of the congregation, keeping an accurate list of visitors to worship, providing for new member classes when needed, and for the assimilation of newer members into active participation in the church.  The Church Growth Committee is also responsible for visitation of inactive members, and maintenance of an accurate church roll and its annual revision. This Committee is also responsible for the church’s communication network, including but not limited to the church website, newsletter, bulletin boards, and timely advertisements in local media outlets.  Elder Paula Breen (765-2356) is the Chairperson of the Church Growth Committee. 

Stewardship and Finance Committee

            The Stewardship and Finance Committee is responsible for the annual budget in coordination with the Session, and for the ongoing program of receiving pledges of financial support.  Interpretation of a theology of stewardship encompassing all of life is part of this Committee’s responsibilities.  This Committee oversees and supports the work of the Treasurer, Jan Falkowski; Assistant Church Treasurer (Anne Leverich), and Financial Secretary (Bob Koebele).  The Insurance Subcommittee is Chaired by Ed Dart, and this Subcommittee oversees and manages all necessary insurance policies for the church.  The Investment Subcommittee oversees the work of the investment firm charged with managing the church’s financial portfolio.  Elder  Bill Bogardus (477-2246)  is the Chairperson of this committee and Elder John Nickles (765-3416) is a member of this Committee. 

Worship

            The Worship Committee is responsible for all worship activities of the church.  In collaboration with the Director of  Music (Mrs. Kim Palermo Bogardus), the Worship Committee is responsible for the music program, including maintenance of the organ and all musical instruments and equipment.  This Committee works with the Music Director and Pastor to arrange and provide for meaningful worship experiences.  Ushers and Greeters for Sunday Worship are recruited and supported by this Committee.  The Worship Committee also relates to the Personnel Committee for the purposes of overseeing and supporting the work of the Director of Music.  Elder Sandy DeLong (734-2531) is Chairperson of the Worship Committee. 

Personnel

            The Personnel Committee is responsible for all matters dealing with the ordained ministry of the church, the annual review of the terms of call for the Pastor, for interpreting the concerns of the church to the Pastor, and for interpreting concerns of the Pastor to the Session and the church.  The Personnel Committee is responsible for salary, compensation, and any related policies regarding all lay staff employees, and for resolving personnel issues in consultation with the Pastor.  This Committee oversees and supports the work of the Church Secretary, Mrs. Carol DeLong.  Elder F.J. Kiernan (765-1599) is Chairperson of the Personnel Committee.  Elder Charles Lauer (765-3960) is also a member of this Committee.
